Champion Jockey Colin Ross piloted Golden Blue Echo to capture the feature event at the Boxing Day one-day horse race meet at Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club at Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Berbice.
Golden Blue Echo was out of the starting gates and tried to show off its speed but Jockey Colin Ross held the animal back allowing Its My Choice and stable mate Brave Sky to take the lead.
The race was over a distance of 1800 meters and had a top prize of $1.2M which came compliments of Metro Office and Computer Supplies.
When the animals came into the final turn with 600 meters to go, Ross spurred Golden Blue Echo going pass Spit Fire, Brave Sky and lady Budapest to win comfortably by 5 and a half lengths.
Lady Budapest ran second ahead of Keep on Swinging and Brave Sky finishing in that order.
Golden Blue Ecko with the win showed that it is one of the better all-round horses around with the ability to sprint and cover the longer distances. This was after winning the feature events at the two Sprint Classic events held at the Nand Persaud Racetrack.
The L class race over a distance of five furlongs for non-winners was won by The Rocket while Release The Beast won the E and lower event sprinting ahead of the pack over six furlongs. Release the beast won the $500,000 first prize and trophy compliments of Digicel.
The 2-year-old Guyana and West Indian bread race saw Genuine Risk winning ahead of Miss Angalie, Princess Saria and Mischievous Maker. The winning purse was $220,000
The race for West Indies bred maiden and Guyana bred H and lower animals saw Amazon Warrior winning.
Other winners were, Settling Star and Party Time.
Jockey Rooprut Ramnauth was the champion jockey with two wins.
Meanwhile, the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club will have races on March 20, May 14, August 1, October 22 and Boxing Day next year.
