Curaçao made the home advantage count as they crushed Guyana’s Golden Jaguars 5 goals to 2 on Wednesday night in their second round fixture in the Caribbean Football Union, Scotia Bank Men’s Caribbean Cup.
The game which should have been a home fixture for Guyana had to be played in the Dutch Island of Curacao due to the unavailability of an appropriate playing venue (in Guyana).
The home team opened the scoring in the 7th minute through Felitciano Zschusschen who would go on to record a hat trick with goals in 61st and 89th minutes.
Two more goals in the 42nd and 63rd minutes from Gina Van Kessel all but sealed victory for the Dutch Islanders.
The Golden Jaguars’ opening goal was scored in the 18th minute by Sheldon Holder who plies his trade in Trinidad with Caledonia United while Brandon Beresford who plays for Rochester Rhinos in the United States scored the other consolation goal 78th minute of play.
In round one, the Golden Jaguars were flawless in the execution of duties by clinically dispatching Anguilla 7-0 in Guyana and Puerto Rico 1-0 in Puerto Rico. The men from the land of many waters will now travel to St. Thomas where they will play the US Virgin Islands (USVI) at the Adelita Cancryn Junior High School Ground on Saturday June 4 while Curaçao will play host to USVI on Tuesday June 7.
The top two teams will advance to the third round which is set for October.
