Golden Om Dharmic Youth Group distributes hampers as COVID-19 cases rise

The Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation said it is deeply concerned about the unprecedented daily increases of COVID 19 cases in Guyana.
In a statement, the Hindu Organisation said as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc, they are taking notes of the various challenges associated with this novel virus.

“We are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to address the many economic challenges experienced by families. Children, in particular, are exposed to health risks when their parents are required to work daily. With the closure of schools, the organisation is calling for more to be done bridge the gap with those challenged by access to technology for education”, the statement read.
Further, the organisation noted areas of safety and security for children, as studies have shown that in these difficult times, there are higher risks of child abuse cases, higher levels of emotional distresses over survival, and a general increase in mental health concerns.
“Thus far, the organisation with its limited resources has teamed up with its parent body to distribute over 100 food hampers in the East Berbice area to persons affected by job loss. It has also embarked on a Live Daily Show on Facebook. The program dubbed as ‘Coping with COVID-19 #CovidOut592” features youths across the globe sharing various coping strategies during quarantine and their experiences”, they said.
To date, over 40 episodes were streamed, featuring youths and associates of the organisation both locally and internationally from countries such as Australia, India, Tanzania Venezuela, and the United States of America.
Locally, youth activists Pandit Deodat Persaud, Lauristan Choy, Marrisa Elizabeth Foster and Dr Juanita Beejaimal were among the many who made their contributions.
The Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation encourages that persons tune in at 15:30h daily on the organisation’s Facebook page. They underscored that each afternoon, a different host presents on a topic, ranging from self-care, COVID-19 prevention tips, cooking, life hacks, entertainment, education among others.
“We wish to thank the thousands who view these videos daily and for their positive feedbacks. This, the organisation believes is helping to deal with the issues of boredom, anxiety, and mental health issues among youths, whilst providing a platform for knowledge sharing”, they added.
In addition, the organisation has started a daily educational feature on its page for primary school students. In the coming weeks, the Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation said it will embark on a robust online education series on COVID-19 prevention tips.
Golden Om Dharmic Youth Organisation urges the general public to heed to the guidelines provided by the World Health Organisation and to adhere to the advisories provided by local health authorities.
“Please stay safe and practice good hygiene techniques such as sanitising the hands, your homes, and workplaces. We also wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to our front line and essential workers who continue to risk their safety to protect and provide for us all”, the organisation expressed.
