Govt paving way for locals to be exploited by foreign investors – GPTWU

In light of Government not paying heed to retired workers who are owed pensions by them as a result of the privatisation of the Guyana Telephone Company (GTC) back in 1990 to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), the Guyana Postal and Telecommunications Workers Union (GPTWU) believes that the Administration is paving the way for local workers to be exploited by foreign investors.
“This situation is a bad message that our Government is sending to the foreign investors. They may want to say that if our Government is treating us this way they can do the same to their employees,” an executive member of the association, David Wallace said.
He made those remarks during a press conference held at the Union’s East Street, Georgetown office on Tuesday.
Guyana Times had inadvertently quoted Wallace as saying that “…the Government is continuing to paint a bad image of themselves to investors with this particular situation, as many may fear to invest in the country due to their fear of how they might be treated later on”.
