As part of ongoing efforts to modernise policing and enhance the force’s technological capabilities, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday handed over a quantity of equipment to the Cybercrime Unit at the Information Technology and Communications Department, Eve Leary, Headquarters.
The handover was conducted by the Officer-in-Charge of Information Technology and Communications, Senior Superintendent Jermaine Johnson, to the Officer-in-Charge of the Cybercrime Unit, Assistant Superintendent Jhared Koulen, in keeping with the force’s continued drive to strengthen its ability to respond to emerging threats in an increasingly digital environment.
The development reflects the wider national emphasis being placed on security modernisation through the Government of Guyana’s sustained budgetary support for the security sector and the GPF.

Budget 2026 earmarks $100.3 billion for the security sector overall, with $36.2 billion allocated to support the activities of the GPF this year.
Against that background, the handover of the equipment to the Cybercrime Unit is a clear reflection of the Government’s commitment to ensuring that the GPF is equipped to meet present and evolving challenges.
As cyber-related offences continue to demand specialised attention, investments of this nature are expected to significantly enhance the Force’s operational readiness, investigative capability, and overall responsiveness.

This development also reflects the GPF’s broader commitment to strengthening specialised policing capacity through strategic investment in key operational areas.
The handover stands as another tangible example of the GPF’s continued advancement through strategic investment while reinforcing its commitment to building a safer, smarter, and more resilient policing framework for the benefit of all Guyanese.
