A Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) man was on Friday placed on ,000 bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan, charged with wounding his grandfather and assaulting his sister.
It is alleged that Delroy Williams of Mahdia, Region Eight, on February 23, 2017, at Co-op Farm Mahdia in the Potaro-Siparuni district, unlawfully and maliciously wounded his grandfather, Clifton Williams, with intent to wound, maim or disfigure him. Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that the parties are known to each other, sharing familial ties and residing in the same home. On the day of the incident, the men were reportedly involved in a misunderstanding of unknown origin when Williams inflicted injuries to the person of his grandfather.
The Prosecution stated that the virtual complainant (VC) is in currently hospitalised, but is in a stable condition.
The second charge alleged that Williams, on February 23 at Co-op Farm Mahdia, Region Eight, unlawfully assaulted his sister, Luciano Williams, as to cause her actual bodily harm.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
During the hearing on Friday, Magistrate McLennan indicated to the Prosecution to advise the both VCs to take out protection order against the accused. She also ordered him to evacuate the premises he shared with the VCs. Williams was also ordered not to go within 50-feet of the parties until the completion of the trial.
The case will continue at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court on April 18.
