Guard nabbed with illegal gun, spent shells

A 27-year-old security guard has been apprehended by Police for possession of an unlicensed firearm and three .32 spent shells at a shop in 58 Miles Village, Upper Demerara River, Region Ten.

According to reports, at around 10:00h on Tuesday, Police ranks from Division #10, acting on information received, visited a shop at 58 Miles Village. Upon reaching the shop, the ranks observed the guard placing a black-and-silver firearm into the smaller section (suck-away) of a septic tank. Swift action by one of the ranks led to the retrieval of the firearm along with three suspected .32 spent shells. The firearm did not have a serial number.
The guard confessed to illegal possession of the firearm, stating that he received it from a friend in Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni). He was arrested and taken to the Mabura Police Outpost, where the firearm and spent shells were lodged. He remains in custody pending charges. (G9)
