Guyana Energy Conference 2027 to drive partnerships in gas, tech and emerging frontiers

The Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo (GECSCE) will return next year, with a major focus on driving partnerships in gas, technology and emerging frontiers. The 2027 edition was on Tuesday launched under the theme “Beyond Frontiers: Guyana’s Energy Story.” This marks the sixth consecutive edition of the conference, underscoring its growing significance to Guyana’s rapid development.
Speaking during the launch of the event, set for February 16-19, Head of the Local Content Secretariat, Michael Munroe, highlighted the importance of the forum to the country’s growing oil and gas economy. “It has become one of the defining platforms through which Guyana speaks to the world and through which the world engages with Guyana,” he said. Munroe further emphasised that the event provides valuable platforms for forging partnerships and attracting investments that can contribute meaningfully to Guyana’s continued transformation. “Guyana’s story is still being written. Of course, you have the opportunity to leave an indelible mark. Government is providing the platform for you to do so,” he noted. “The choices we make now about how we invest, how we govern, how we share the benefits of this moment will determine whether this era is remembered…”
Also delivering remarks at the launch was President of ExxonMobil Guyana, Alistair Routledge, who noted that the Energy Conference explore Guyana’s gas resources in greater detail, including the investment strategies and opportunities surrounding their development. “The story of Guyana’s energy has been oil to date but we’re on the cusp of gas. Of course, we’ve already laid the pipeline to deliver gas to the Wales area in Region Three. The Government is working to complete the project at Wales to take that gas, to have a stream of natural gas liquids, cooking gas, for many purposes, but also the power plant, to transform the supply of energy to Guyana to make it more reliable, lower cost and lower emissions. We’re on that cusp, that frontier is about to be broken. But we’re also at the frontier of expanding gas as fuel of the local economy into Berbice,” Routledge explained.
“We’ve talk about it at last year’s conference. I’m sure we will talk a lot more in 2027. What is the future of gas in Guyana, what are the industries of the future, who will be the players, when will it happen. All questions we will be able to talk about in February 2027,” he added. Routledge also noted that the conference will also explore the use of technology in the industry. “AI [artificial intelligence] that we’re deploying in our operations, that we’re using to ensure we maximise the recovery of oil from the reservoirs offshore Guyana. The digital technologies that are enabling what’s possible,” the ExxonMobil Guyana President noted.
“Our industry is transforming, Guyana’s economy is transforming, the future is bright. How do we leverage that technology as we move forward, how do we think bigger and bolder, how do we go behind,” he added, noting that these are questions the conference will answer.
