evening; the team is boosted by the arrival of Alex Arjoon, Richard Chin and Kristian Jeffery.
Meanwhile, after the team’s hopes of securing an individual gold medal at the CSSC were extinguished on Tuesday, as Ashley Khalil, Mary Fung-A-Fat and Sunil Seth suffered semi-final loses, Jason Ray Khalil and Victoria Arjoon secured wins in the respective men’s and women’s plate (9-16).
Khalil defeated Cayman Islands Julian Jervis 3-1 (11/9, 11/8, 1/11, 11/5) while Arjoon romped to a 3-0 (11/9, 11/3, 11/7) over the hosts Faith Gillezeau.
However, in the women’s classic plate (5th place) Larissa Wiltshire fell to Barbadian Amanda Haywood 3-1 (11-8 11-5 8-11 11-6); in the women’s third place Ashley Khalil won by walkover Mary Fung-A-Fatt.
The difficult trip to the twin Island republic continued for Guyana, as they went down 0-5 to the hosts in the veteran team matches.
In the men’s 40+ Paul Devertile defeated Ramon Chan-A-Sue 3-0 (11/7, 12/10, 11/7),
Alwyn Callendar lost to Richard Hart 3-2 (5/11, 11/4, 11/2, 6/11, 11/6) in the Men’s 60+.
For the women’s 50+ Ingrid Lloyd won 3-0 (11/1, 1/3, 11/6) against Juanita Fernandes; Men’s 50 + John Holley beat Jojo Mekdeci 3-0 (11/8, 11/6, 11/3) while the Trinidadians also won the women’s 40+ via default.
The Men’s team who have been strengthened have been placed in a pool with defending champions Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. They begin their quest for glory on today when they play Jamaica in the morning and then Cayman Islands in the evening.
