Government and the citizen’s behalf, to ensure that Guyana can optimally take advantage of being a “rich oil country”.
The Chilean diplomat made the comment as he was addressing the gathering at the celebration of the 207th Independence Anniversary his country, during which he pledged the support of his country as Guyana prepares to take on the impending changes.
In doing so, Ambassador Rojas Rachel highlighted, “We know that becoming a rich oil country could be a blessing and it also could be a major challenge.”
However, despite referring to the potential complications awaiting Guyana as the country gets ready to compete on the international oil market, the foreign official went on to outline the approach needed to ensure that the outcomes of the industry can be spun into positive ripple effects for the country.
On that note, he stated, “The beauty of the challenge is how everyone could work together in bringing the economic wellbeing that this new industry will produce to enjoy the economic, social, and cultural development of Guyana.”
The Chilean ambassador added that in order for Guyana to cash in on maximum growth from the promised wealth, there is a need for a strong sense of democracy, responsibility, application of the rule of law, and accountability.
Nevertheless, the Chilean diplomatic did indicate that he is confident that the Guyanese Government can see this through.
“I have acknowledged the commitment of President Granger in order to ensure that this new momentum in the life of Guyana will bring about better quality of life to everyone,” expressed the ambassador.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, the featured speaker also alluded to the upcoming elections in Chile, indicating that the country is about to undergo a major social and democratic transformation from which Chileans hope to emerge as an even stronger nation.
With that being said, Chile’s representative pledged commitment, on his country’s behalf, to continued partnership between the two South American States, especially in light of the developments in the pipeline for Guyana as well.
