Guyana’s triple jumper leaps into final at Rio

Troy Doris has placed hope in the hearts of many Guyanese who continue to be drowned in disappointment, as he now has the opportunity to break a 36-year-old Olympic medal drought. Doris jumped into the finals of the men’s triple jump after finishing sixth on Monday.
The 27-year-old overseas-based Guyanese jumped 16.81 meters with the Olympic record being 18.09 meters as well as the World record being 18.29 meters and will now set his sights on a medal today at 08:50h.
Doris, who is currently ranked seventh in the world, holds the Guyana’s national record at 17.18 meters.
The leading Guyanese jumper took to his social media account where he expressed his delight in being able to represent his country and a “time to make history.”

Guyana last won a medal back in 1980 when the event was staged in Moscow. Bantamweight boxer, Michael Paris won Guyana a bronze medal. Guyana has never won a medal in the men’s triple jump.
