Guyanese players invited to Barbadian female chess tournament

Female chess players from Guyana will this weekend have the opportunity to flex their minds and skills as they have been invited to participate in the inaugural Margaret Prince Memorial Rapid Online Female Tournament.
The invitation was extended by the Barbados Chess Federation to the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) for all female players to participate, and will see a two-day competition on Saturday, September 18th and Sunday, September 19th.
The event is being organised by the Women’s Chess Sub-Committee of the Barbados Chess Federation, and will be held in honour of Ms Margaret Prince who was the first Women’s Chess Champion for that Caribbean island.
A total of seven rounds will be played over the two-day event, which will see females from over 20 countries in and around the Caribbean participating.
According to the GCF, Guyana will be well represented by a team of both senior and junior players, mostly veterans of past international online tournaments. Top junior female players such as Adia Alphonso, Maliha Rajkumar, Pooja Lam and Anaya Lall have all played in the recent FIDE Online Youth and Cadet World Cup 2021 with favourable results, and are expected to head into the weekend’s tournament with great momentum.
Older, more experienced players such as Jessica Callender, Shazeeda Rahim, Nellisha Johnson and Sherlyta Campayne, who have all participated in the Online Olympiad recently, are also looking forward to demonstrating their skills in this much-anticipated female tournament.
