Headquarters retain Commissioner’s T20 title

Defending champions Headquarters retained their Commissioner’s T20 Cricket Tournament title yesterday after defeating the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) by nine wickets in an emphatic final at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Sent in to bat, TSU struggled against a disciplined Headquarters bowling attack and was restricted to 124 for six from its allotted 20 overs.
Aeon Rodrigues top-scored with 34, while Alex Burnett and Derrick Thomas chipped in with 20 and 16, respectively.
Kanhaiya Ramkaran led the Headquarters bowling effort, claiming two wickets for 19 runs from his four overs. Captain Ameer Mohamed, Hazel Williams, Ewan Blair and Kapildeo Charran supported with a wicket apiece.
Headquarters then made light work of the target, racing to 126 for one in just 9.4 overs.

Openers Andrew Lyght and Pernell London provided a solid platform for the chase, with Lyght contributing 30 runs before London took complete control of the contest.
London produced a blistering unbeaten 56 from just 24 deliveries, smashing four fours and three sixes to put Headquarters firmly on course for victory.
Dwain Dick then added further fireworks, hammering an unbeaten 33 from only 11 balls, including three fours and three sixes, as Headquarters stormed to victory with 62 balls to spare.
The triumph further cemented Headquarters’ dominance in the Commissioner’s T20 Tournament, with the side securing an unprecedented fifth consecutive title.
Several players were also rewarded for their outstanding performances throughout the competition.
Kemol Savoury was adjudged the tournament’s leading run-scorer after producing back-to-back centuries and finishing with 260 runs.
Ramkaran was named Best Bowler in the final following his impressive figures of two for 19 from four overs, while London collected both the Most Valuable Player and Best Batsman awards for his match-winning unbeaten half-century.
The awardees received trophies and cash prizes in recognition of their performances.
Earlier in the day, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Academy secured third place after defeating Region Six in the third-place playoff.
Region Six, batting first, struggled to build a competitive total and was bowled out for 102 in 17.4 overs.
Gafoor, Williams and Cort were the only Region Six batsmen to reach double figures, scoring 23, 12 and 11, respectively.
Otto Towler spearheaded the GPF Academy attack with outstanding figures of three wickets for just seven runs from four overs. Shane Prince and Osafo Matheson claimed two wickets apiece, while Joshua Kishundial and Jamal Hemerding took one each.
The Academy completed the chase in 17.5 overs, reaching 105. Vishal Williams led the way with 41, while Prince contributed 28 to guide the Academy to third-place honours.
The tournament’s conclusion showcased the depth of cricketing talent within the GPF while reinforcing the values of teamwork, discipline, fitness and camaraderie among the participating ranks.
