However, opening remarks were delivered by Regional Health Officer Dr. Theresa Sarju, while brief remarks were offered by Regional Vice Chairman (VC) Kleon Lindey and Director of Training and Education at the Ministry of Health Dr Chandroutie Persaud. Also in attendance were Regional Chairman Recardo Phillips and Regional Executive Officer Mary Samaroo.
Delivering the feature address, Health Minister Frank Anthony noted that healthcare development is not only about hospitals and equipment but also about investing in the people who deliver care. He highlighted that, in the past, trainees from Region Five were required to travel to New Amsterdam or Georgetown to access simulation training and explained that the new Centre will make high-quality training more accessible within the region.
The Minister also announced that the Government intends to establish 10 Simulation Centres across Guyana and encouraged residents of Region Five to pursue careers in the medical field as the country continues to expand its healthcare services. The opening of the Simulation Centre marks another important investment in strengthening healthcare delivery and training opportunities in Region Five and Guyana as a whole under the leadership of President Dr Irfaan Ali.
