Berbician off-spinner Eon Hooper took 5-76 while veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 74 to impress on the third day’s play of the Guyana Jaguars 4-day Warm up match between Vishaul Singh’s XI and Christopher Barnwell’s XI at the Everest Cricket Club.
Vishaul’s XI resuming the day on 181-3 in response to Barnwell’s XI first inning 325, with all-rounder Raymon Reifer and Chanderpaul at the crease on 68 and 49 respectively, Reifer only added one this overnight score which brought an end to the 136-run partnership for the fourth wicket with the score on 190-4.
Chanderpaul continued to bat merrily, as he passed the half-century mark but Hopper got a delivery to take the outside edge and he was taken behind by wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach for a well-played 74 (5x4s; 3x6s).
Akshaya Persaud 35 (4x4s), Anthony Bramble 30 (4x4s) and Sherfene Rutherford 27 (5x4s) were also among the runs as their team were bowled out for 368, securing a 43-run lead; Hooper who followed up his exceptional season in the Jaguars Franchise League where he was the leading wicket-taker bowled 57.4 overs of which 26 were maidens to achieve his feat.
When Barnwell XI took to the crease for their second innings, they reached 36 when they lost opener Robbin Bacchus for 13, followed by Kevon Boodie for 6 to be reeling at 44-2.
Kandasammy Surujnarine and Chanderpaul Hemraj then consolidated to ensure no further damage was done before stumps were drawn at 63-2 with a slim lead of 20.
The final day’s play will begin today at 09:30h.
