Inaugural Dragon Stout Futsal kicks off on November 15
Futsal teams will now have another platform to display their skills, as the Dragon Stout Futsal Tournament has been launched, and the straight knockout action will unfold on November 15.
Four nights of extraordinary football action at the National Gymnasium will excite fans and supporters alike, as 16 teams vie for the $300,000 grand prize.
At this tournament’s launching ceremony on Monday morning — which took place at ANSA McAl’s head office at Beterverwagting, the company’s corporate communications officer told media operatives about the rationale behind the tournament.
“One of the reasons for the tournament is not just to promote the brand, but it is to foster development in the communities to ensure that person have a chance to do something with their lives; a chance to play and have good development in the sport of futsal. A lot of time there’s not much futsal being played, so that’s one of the things that this tournament targets,” Joseph revealed.
The 16 teams finalised for the four-day action are North East La Penitence, Albouystown, Leopold St, Broad St, Sophia, LA Ballers, Bent St, Gold is Money, Back Circle, Sparta Boss, Alexander Village, Future Stars, Tiger Bay, ‘Melanie B’, ANSA McAL All-Stars and Showstoppers.
Competition would begin on November 15, but other playing nights will be on November 22 and 29, with the curtains coming down on the activities on December 6.
Joseph has expressed an intention to expand the tournament in the future.
Here’s what he had to say:
“In the near future, of course, it’s definitely one of the things we’ll look at in terms of expanding the tournament beyond Georgetown.
“It’s the inaugural tournament, so to start in Georgetown to really familiarise the brand with communities is a solid start. In the near future, we would be looking to expanded to other parts of Guyana, whether it is West Bank or East Coast,” he stated.
The winner of the inaugural tournament would pocket $300,000; second place will have to settle for $150,000, while third and fourth places would pocket $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
