International 6 triumph in Shew Birth Anniversary Dominoes

After a fiercely contested six sittings, it took fives to decide the winners of last Sunday’s Manniram “Packer” Shew Birth Anniversary Feature Dominoes game, played at Ernest Shop at Canal Number One Polder, West Bank Demerara.
In the end, International 6 with four fives bested 246 (Barbados) with two fives, after the two teams were deadlocked on 73 games and with six sixes each, while Canal Six trailed on 68.

246 (Barbados) had the better of the early exchanges, but International 6 took a decisive two-game lead heading into the final sitting with the scores reading International 6 on 63; 246 (Barbados) two games behind on 61; and Canal Six still in contention with 57.
Veteran Hilbert “Bumpy” Ali, in a superb display, registered the maximum 18 games for the winners, in the process sharing the lone love. Skipper Shew supported with 16.
For 246 (Barbados), Leroy Hope and Anderson Layne scored 15 and 14 games respectively. The top markers for Canal Six were M. Samjeewan (15) and Ramroop “Spoon” Sukhai (14).

P. Ramdial from Canal suffered a love.
Trophies were awarded to the winning and first runners-up teams, and top player Hilbert Ali.
As a kind gesture to the visiting Barbadians, some of whom were here for the staging of the World Council Dominoes Federation (WCDF), Shew donated the winning trophy to captain Anderson Layne.
