It was a challenging year for AAG – Hutson

President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Aubrey Hutson has stated that 2016 has been “a challenging year.” This statement was made in an interview with the AAG president on Monday at his Alberttown, Georgetown.
While it was challenging nevertheless there were some amount of success in the year. “I expected a little more particularly out of our Olympic team. Over the years I have been saying the key to success is shining at the higher competitions, that are where we attract the real kind of sponsorships but outside of that I am quite comfortable of what the athletes would have accomplished at the junior level. The year 2016 has been a reasonable good year for track and field in Guyana I think” Hutson said.

However, the association will be meeting this weekend to “look back at 2016 to see where we can improve in 2017.”
Looking at what was achieved in 2016, the AAG President said that the efficient running of the competitions was one of the main objectives to have fulfilled and is proud to have achieved that goal.
“We would have focused on having our competitions ran more efficient and I think we have done so well and now we have persons trained to use the Fully Automatic Timing system, we have many persons trained to do meet management. So we know when we hold our competitions the results we put out there are true and authentic.”
Heading into 2017, the new aim is to have more certified coaches in the system in order to garner the development of our athletes.
“Now we are working with our coaches we have too many uncertified coaches in the system, they will take our junior athletes to a particular level but no further and the way things are set up on the international level is if you can’t complete level one then you can’t go on to level two. We are looking to put out 48 new certified coaches into the system which will be a major boost to our local programme,” Stated the AAG President.
Hutson was elected president of the AAG back in 2013.
