Leg spinner Damion Jacobs dashed ICC Americas hope of achieving a possible victory against Jamaica Scorpions with a five-wicket haul on Wednesday at the 3 W’s Oval at Cave Hill, Barbados as Group B action continued in the Cricket West Indies Regional Super50.
Jacobs grabbed his second five wicket haul in List A cricket to help dismiss ICC Americas for 187 in pursuit of 252 for their first victory in this year’s tournament. His 5-24 from 10 overs ensured Scorpions win the match handsomely by 67 runs on Duckworth/Lewis Method.
Fast bowler Jerome Taylor continued his good run in this year’s Super50 tournament by capturing two wickets. Kamau Leverock, ICC Americas 22-year old opener top scored with 75 to give his team a good start and kept them in the hunt but wickets at regular intervals at the other end meant that another defeat was always on the cards.
Earlier, Scorpions started shakily, slipping to 53-3, with Chadwick Walton (21), Steven Taylor (7) and Jermaine Blackwood (9) all back in the hut but Andre McCarthy (63) and Devon Thomas (28) added 69 for the fourth wicket to rebuild the innings. There were two interruptions for rain in the Scorpions innings which forced the game to be reduced to a 46 overs a-side contest. Subsequent to the fourth wicket revival, John Campbell demoted to number six got 66 not out from 42 balls and Rovman Powell, who remained unbeaten on 52 from 38 deliveries created fireworks at the backend of the Scorpions’ innings in an unbroken partnership valued 101 runs which gave the Scorpions the momentum going into the second half of the match.
Saad Zafar was the pick of the ICC Americas’ bowlers with 2-35 from nine overs.
It was the second win for the Scorpions from four matches while ICC Americas remain winless from the same amount of matches.
The Scorpions will have a few days off and will be in action again on Sunday against the Marooners while the ICC Americas will play the rested Jaguars on Friday.
