The Showdown of Champions stakes and Clash at the Big Yard stakes will be more than a battle of quality horses. It will be a battle of the top jockeys and the dynamic duo of Colin Ross and Yovin Kissoonchand are front runners for the crown.
On Sunday, October 18, the Port Mourant Turf Club will come alive. Last year’s champion jockey Kissoonchand is moving one step closer towards Ross, the leading jockey.
According to Kissoonchand, preparations are going smoothly for him and he has his eyes set on the jockey crown as the season draws to a close.
“Preparation is going good so far. The championship for top jockey is coming with a lot of heat,” Kissoonchand said.

The veteran Ross leads the points table with 13 wins this season, while Kissoonchand has 10 wins with four fewer races than Ross.?
Both jockeys displayed class throughout the season, and after seven meets this year, there is little to separate the two.
General admission for the October 18 race meet is $3000, and 10 exciting races are on the cards. The juvenile invitational two-year-old race will be in honour of the late Carlton “Blackmouth” Pluck.
The feature race will be the Doodnauth Shook Sivmangal Memorial Clash at the Big Yard stakes, where the total purse is $1.6 million.
All of the top horses will be fresh and ready for the first competitive race since the Guyana Cup back in August. Guyana Cup winner Sand Pipes will be the horse to watch.
The top horses from Js Racing Stables, Slingerz Racing Stables, Master Z/Jumbo Jet and Jagdeo Racing Stables are expected to showcase thrilling battles.
