Juveniles participate in Karate Grading Competition

Three juveniles on Friday last were given the opportunity to participate in a Karate Grading Competition held by Guyana Karate College (GKC) at the Transport Sports Club, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.

Two of them are from the Juvenile Holding Centre while the other was recently placed under the preview of the Child Care and Protection Agency.
They had exceptional performances which resulted in one stepping up to second brown belt, while the other two received their yellow belts.
The Public Security Ministry extends congratulations to the trio, and expressed heartfelt thanks to Sensei Grant and other members of the GKC for their support to the Juvenile Holding Centre in helping to change their lives.
The Ministry further extended congratulations to Sensei Frank Woon-A-Tai, Chief Instructor and Chairman of the International Karate Association, who is celebrating his 50th year of teaching karate in Guyana and internationally.
According to a release, the Ministry is happy to have exposed the trio to a sport that teaches not only physical fitness but key values such as self-confidence, self-discipline and respect, as well as leadership skills.
In closing, it welcomed the idea of future collaborations with the GKC as it continued to enhance the lives of juveniles.
