The Lusignan Golf Club will be host to the 14th edition of the MACORP Golf Tournament, which will see many of Guyana’s top players, and even those from abroad, competing to be crowned champion.
Action in this tournament is expected to heat up at the 11am start time, as the champions of the GTT Guyana Open will be there alongside other competitors who competed in that mega tournament two weekends ago.
In terms of what to expect today when the tournament commences, LGC Vice President Paton George said, “The excitement is palpable, as it always is for this our second biggest tournament of the year. Almost every player from last week’s GTT Guyana Open has signed up to take their swing on Saturday. Because of the larger-than- anticipated field, the competition was moved up two and a half hours to 11am, to ensure all players finish on time.
Many top golfers will turn out to compete
“Players should expect low winning scores. There will be a lot of intriguing head-to-head competitions. There are no clear favourites in this battle for best Net scores. Christine Sukhram and Joaan Deo are expected to pressure Shenella London in the ladies’ competition.
“On the men’s side, the brothers will do battle once again, but will have to go very low if they are going to fend off challenges in this best net challenge. Expect some upsets this week.”
The LGC VP revealed that MACORP has been the club’s most consistent partner over the last several years, and the club is thankful and excited about this enduring relationship. George declared that MACORP and its powerful line of equipment have been instrumental in helping LGC to keep the course in such great shape.
The format will be medal play over 18 holes net scores in 4 flights and shotgun start. The flights will be Men’s 0-9, 10-18, and 19-28; the Ladies’ flight is 0-36. Prizes will be given from first to third position in each flight based on net scores. There will also be prizes for nearest to flag, longest drive, best net overall-champion player of the day, and best gross.
Additionally, golfing paraphernalia will be distributed to all players, and there will be a card raffle at the end of the presentation ceremony.
Fifteen years ago, MACORP joined with the Lusignan Golf Club, and has since continuously supported the club. MACORP is known for its support of community service projects and sports in Guyana. MACORP is the only authorised dealer of Caterpillar products in Guyana.
