LA Ballers’ undefeated streak highlights night of action
Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” Georgetown Championships playoff round…
The Burnham Court at Middle and Carmichael Streets, Georgetown was the venue for the action packed Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Georgetown Championships playoff round, which kicked off on Friday last.
Game one of the playoffs saw Under Dogs defeat Future Leaders Junior 3-1, while Good Over Evil were able to overcome Future Leaders Seniors 2-1. Closing out the round, Breda Street managed to dominate LA Ballers 3-0, while John Street crushed Immaculate Ballers 3-0 and
Rasville won via walkover.

In the second round’s play, Berlin defeated Breda Street 1-0, while LA Ballers carried their form into their second match to ease past Adidas Ballers 1-0. In the final matchup, Channel 9 Warriors’ match ended in a stalemate against Durban Backlands; but heading into a penalty shootout, Channel 9 came out victorious 2-0.
In the third round, Gaza Squad tied with LA Ballers 1-1, but a penalty shootout saw the in-form LA Ballers walk away victorious 2-1. Channel 9 Warriors also carried their form into the next round, slipping past Breda Street 2-0. Also recording a win was Berlin, who defeated Rasville 2-0.
In the final round, the undefeated LA Ballers overcame Under Dogs 1-0, and Berlin handed the Channel 9 Warriors their first loss, winning 1-0.
The official competition, pegged to start on July 12th and 13th, will be staged across three venues over the course of seven days. The National Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue in Georgetown is scheduled to host this event for the very first time, while games are also slated to be held at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac and at the Burnham Court. An elimination format would be in operation during the first two nights, with the resulting victors advancing to the group round, which will be contested on the following three days of the match.
The top two finishers from each pool would advance to the quarterfinal round and subsequent semi-final round, which would be held on the penultimate day of the tournament.
The eight teams that fail to advance from the groups will compete in the Guinness Plate Championships. The eventual winners will automatically seal their place in the National Championships in August.
To date, Beacons [Bartica Champions], Melanie ‘B’ [East Coast Demerara winners], Brothers United [West Demerara/East Demerara winners], Trafalgar [Berbice champions], and High Rollers [Linden champions] are the teams to have secured automatic berths to the national championships.
