Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) finished as runners-up in the 2026 West Indies Championship. According to Captain Tevin Imlach, the lack of preparation ahead of the tournament played a significant part in hampering Guyana’s Four-Day glory.
Imlach also said the players lacked evolution, being equally critical of himself, noting that he did not stand up when the team needed him most.
“In terms of preparation, we struggled in that regard. Two weeks coming into this tournament, no preparation. The weather, it continues to be a struggle for us in Guyana. The weather is not always the best for cricket,” the Guyanese Captain said.
He added, “We did some good things and we had some good performances. Gudakesh Motie was the standout, and Keemo Paul was good with bat and ball.”
Imlach also admitted that the GHE were in strong positions to turn the game in their favour but failed to capitalise. He pointed out the last wicket stand where Jayden Seales went on to score his maiden first-class fifty.
“We were a bit complacent, and we also had some decisions that didn’t go our way. We also had some drop chances as well. With the bat we were poor. We could have been better with the bat,” Imlach highlighted.
“From last year to this year I didn’t think our players evolved, and I felt we could have been a lot better this year,” he explained.
