The Region Six edition of the Ancient Regional Youth Basketball Tournament tipped off in exciting fashion on Wednesday, May 20, with dominant performances from Berbice High School, Berbice Educational Institute (BEI), and Vryman’s Erven Secondary.
In the opening girls’ encounter, Vryman’s Erven secured a convincing 16-6 victory over Skeldon Line Path. Leading the charge was Venicia Myers, who delivered an outstanding performance with 14 points to earn Player of the Game honours.
Despite the loss, Skeldon Line Path showed determination throughout the contest, with Sameera Hussain contributing four points for her side.
The second game saw Berbice Educational Institute edge Tutorial Academy 19-14 in a competitive matchup. Demetrius Reid was instrumental in BEI’s triumph, scoring nine points and earning the Player of the Game title.
Tutorial Academy’s Raekwone Gladstone produced the game’s highest individual score with 11 points, but his efforts were not enough to prevent BEI from claiming victory.
In the final game of the evening, Berbice High School delivered a commanding performance to defeat Vryman’s Erven 27-9. Avion Kesney starred for Berbice High with a brilliant 16-point display and was named Player of the Game, while Shimron Jahfer added six points in support.
For Vryman’s Erven, Jabeal Braithwaithe managed four points in a difficult outing against a strong Berbice High side.
