LGC 2018 season begins Saturday

–“Course ready for pros” says Hussain

For the first time in years, local golfers will be gearing up to take to the greens this early as the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) prepares to host its first tournament of 2018.
In recent times, golfers were starved of action for the majority of the year, with rains rendering the course unplayable for at least the first six months of the year. However, with the invaluable support shown by the Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP), who selflessly lent the LGC executives an excavator and

other pieces of machinery, action will commence months ahead of the traditional time.
LGC President, Aleem Hussain on Tuesday confirmed with Guyana Times Sport that the course which was under nearly three feet of water almost a week ago was fully playable at the moment but will be at its peak by Thursday the latest.
“The success we had was a team effort, it’s a good work by the members who came together and put the effort behind it. A week ago the ground was under two and half feet of water and a week later we are ready for competition; in comparison to last year we could not set foot on the course until mid-June,” said the President.
Hussain, who was elected late last year added that the ace behind the project was truly MACORP who ensured that the club was outfitted with all the necessary pieces of equipment and machinery needed to bring the course in playing shape, months ahead of time.
It was also important for the golfers to have ample to prepare for the various tournaments billed both locally and internationally, as Hussain highlighted that the club would seek to increase the number of annual tournaments during 2018 and onwards.
According to Hussain; all 18 holes were tested last Sunday by himself and a few members of the club in order to ensure that it was indeed fit for competition. He further pointed out that the sponsor for the one-day tourney which is set for Saturday will be announced later in the week.
Rehab on the course commenced last December and continued daily under the
