Linden church observes Golden Anniversary with health fair

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Fruits of Calvary Assembly of God Church at Wismar, Linden hosted a health fair which saw residents accessing free medical services.
Among the services offered were medical advice from a doctor on site, eye tests, HIV, blood sugar and pressure testing, nutritional advice from the Food Policy Division, a blood drive, and dental check-ups.
According to Senior Pastor Walter Lewis, this was just one of the church’s activities to celebrate its Jubilee Year.
“So many people are inflicted with all kinds of aches, all kinds of conditions medically, and some of them are not even aware of some things that might be affecting them; and so we thought if we can do something like this, at least we can sensitise some people about some things that might be affecting them.
At least they can be able to take further steps in terms of getting treatment. So we decided we could have them here at our location. So we have asked the hospital and relevant medical institutions to come on board with us”, he explained.
Reports are that more than two persons were immediately taken to the hospital via ambulance after it was discovered that their condition needed emergency care.
The Linden community has continuously benefited from health fairs and outreaches, and more than often feedback indicated that high blood pressure and glucose levels are alarming.
As such, the Food Policy Division has offered advice on how to maintain health levels. Several persons also took the opportunity to donate blood to the blood bank at the event.
