Linden drug mule gets 3 years, fined $1.8M

Twenty-two-year-old Emmanuel ‘Gavin’ Martin of One Mile Extension, Wismar, Linden, who was busted with over two kilograms of ganja in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, was on Tuesday sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and fined $1.8 million.

Martin appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court, and pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. He was reportedly arrested by members of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) with a salt bag containing five parcels of the illicit drug.
And 22-year-old Ronaldo Chapman, who was also arrested after a small amount of cannabis was found in his possession, was remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty to the charge. He appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.

The drugs that were found on the two men

Chapman, also called “Pappy”, of Half Mile Wismar, Linden, was arrested after a search at a house in Block 22 Wismar unearthed several Ziplock bags and a black plastic bag containing a quantity of cannabis concealed in a speaker box.
He will make his next court appearance on February 7, 2022. The men were arrested over the last week following separate operations conducted by CANU.
