Trevon Stanislaus and Leon Swamy both scored fighting knocks of 47 , which gave Berbice a slight edge on the first day of their Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/ Hand-in-Hand U-19 Inter-County three-day match against the National Select U-17 team at the Everest Ground on Wednesday.
The duo rescued their team who were at one stage 85-5 to give them a respectable total of 176 to which the U-17s were 76-4 at stumps in reply. Stanislaus struck six fours and two sixes in an attractive innings while partner Swamy hammered three sixes and a single four; Captain Kevin Sinclair looked assured at the crease, but fell for 21.

spinner Niron Bissu took 2-12 and Sylvian Williams, who showcased good intensity with the new ball, took 1-44.
Taking their strike in the middle, Sinclair undermined the U-17s, grabbing the prized wicket of Sachin Singh for just 15 on his way to taking 2-8.
Seon Glasgow struck the ball well in his 18, but was sensibly run out. It now places the burden on Andre Seepersaud, who is unbeaten on 23, to reduce the 100-run deficit today.
Over at the Tuschen Ground, Demerara for the second day running produced a horrendous performance with the bat to be bundled out for 40 against Essequibo in 20.2 overs after inserting themselves.
Kennard Moonsammy was the only double-figure batsman with 11 runs as Joshua Jones and Joel Fortune had 3-10 and 3-9 respectively, and support also came from Quintin Sampson ,who picked up 2-9.
Essequibo in reply got to 143 in 41.3 overs with Vice Captain Kurt Lovell topping the scoreboard with 43 and Sampson hitting 43 as well; Jones came and fired 21.
The combination of Saadiq Khan and Ashmead Nedd rattled Essequibo as they ended with 5-42 and 5-43 respectively.
Demerara in their second innings reached 91 for 5 at stumps; Joshua Persaud and Adrian Hinds both made 31.
