A Diamond, East Bank Demerara man was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for incidentally assaulting a seven-year-old girl.
Anansuaruddin Khan was charged for the offence in July, and his trial came to an end on Wednesday.
Magistrate Judy Latchman handed down the sentence at the Georgetown
Magistrates’ Courts. The 36-year-old man was told that the Court believed the evidence presented by the prosecution and as such, he was found guilty as charged.
The charge had stated that between June 1 and June 30, 2017, in Georgetown, Khan indecently assaulted the seven-year-old girl. The accused was granted $150,000 bail on his first appearance. According to reports, Khan was entrusted by the girl’s mother to collect the child from school each day, dropping her home. However, he reportedly committed the act during one of their trips home. This was reported to the mother by the child. As such, the woman made a report to the Police, and Khan was arrested and charged.
