An Albert Street, Queenstown, Georgetown man was shot by Police ranks on Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly opened fire on the lawmen.
Reports are that the car, in which the 21-year-old man was travelling, bearing registration plates PSS 4647, was intercepted by Police at Norton and Chapel Streets, Georgetown about 15:00h. Police said in a statement that ranks had observed the car and its occupants and followed it.

Guyana Times understands that one of the men opened fire in the direction of the Police ranks, jumped out of the car, and headed towards Princes Street. This resulted in an exchange of gunshots and the man was shot in his shoulder. He was subsequently picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. When this publication visited the scene, Police Officers were seen searching the car and the area. A .357 revolver with four matching rounds of ammunition and a spent shell have been recovered.
Meanwhile, according to a resident in the area, Mignon Ford, she was awakened by gunshots, which prompted her to peek through a window. She said she saw a man running through her yard with two Police Officers hot in pursuit.
“I was sleeping. When I get up, somebody was coming down my back step and I hear the man say ‘you shoot him?’ and the boy run down. Next thing when I look out, I see two Police outside and somebody that was going behind there.”
The woman indicated that she was fearful for her life, since she could have been wounded during the incident.
“It’s like whoever fire the shot, it hit there (the stairs). I was [afraid] because it was I alone home. Everybody gone out,” Ford stated.
Information pertaining to the injured man’s identity has not been revealed as yet. However, investigations are ongoing.
