Mother of acquitted murder accused Marcus Bisram and a relative were on Friday given a one-year jail sentence for offering a detective $4 million to suppress evidence against her son.

The sentence was handed down to Sharmila Inderjali and her co-accused, Maryanna Lionel, by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The two women were first arraigned in November 2016 when they offered a detective at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, Eve Leary, Georgetown, $4 million for him to hide evidence in relation to the murder of Faiyaz Narinedatt.
Inderjali, 48, of Number 72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, and Lionel, 28, were released on $3 million bail pending the outcome of the matter.

On October 31, 2016, Narinedatt was allegedly beaten and run over by a motor car on the alleged orders of Bisram, after he shunned sexual advances that were made by the overseas-based Guyanese.
The body of 27-year-old Narinedatt was later found on the Number 70 Village Public Road, Corentyne.
Five persons – Radesh Motie, Diadatt Datt, Harri Paul Parsram, Orlando Dickie, and Niran Yacoob – have since been committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder. However, the charges against Bisram have been dismissed.
However, after the charge was dismissed, the Director of Public Prosecutions had ordered the Magistrate, who dismissed the charge, to commit Bisram to face a trial in the High Court.
This led to him being rearrested. That committal was recently quashed by High Court Judge Simone Morris-Ramlall, who ruled that there was insufficient evidence to continue the charge against him. As such, he was freed.
