Messiah too good for New Market in Berbice wind ball cricket

Clever bowling by Messiah Primary boys enabled them to beat New Market Primary in the only game possible

as action in the Department of Sport National Sports Commission (NSC) 50 Shades of Games and AL Sport and Tour Promotions 19th Annual Primary Schools Windball Cricket Champions Trophy in Berbice on Thursday.

Playing at the Number 71 Village Ground, Messiah Primary registered a 24-run win over New Market Primary in the opening leg of the tournament.

Messiah won the toss on a cloudy day in soggy condition and batted first reaching 47-8 off their allotted 5 overs, with Niradj Singh 12 not out and Ramesh Jodhan 10.

Bowling for New Market, Nicholas Ramgoolam picked up 3 for 9 and Asif Hussian 2 for 5.

New Market turns in their turn at the crease were restricted to 23 for 5 at the end of their allotted overs. Bowling for Messiah, Kevin Persaud grabbed 2 for 3.

The tournament is being held for boys and girls attending schools situated along the Corentyne.

Meanwhile, the girls teams from both schools did not get to compete in the round robin tournament. Action continues next week.
