Police in Regional Division # 7 have arrested a 45-year-old gold miner of Belfield Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD), as investigations continue around the discovery of a firearm and ammunition on Sunday, at about 14:30hs during an operation conducted at Quartzstone Landing, Cuyuni River. According to police, during the February 8 operation, ranks observed a wooden boat arriving at the landing with several occupants, during which a male was seen acting in a suspicious manner as he disembarked.
As such, he was stopped by ranks and a search was conducted on his person. A further search was conducted on the haversack he was carrying, where a cloth bag was found containing one CZ .32 pistol along with 12 live .32 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station along with the suspected firearm and ammunition, which were lodged pending investigation.
