Ministries team up with GGMC to clean up Itaballi

The Ministries of Natural Resources and Communities collaborated with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) to undertake a major clean-up exercise in Itaballi Village, Mazaruni.
The exercise lasted five days and included the rehabilitation of previous dump sites.
The campaign stemmed from requests made by the Community Development Council (CDC) in Itaballi.
Chairperson of the CDC, Coleen Singh, called for the clean-up of the community which was in a deplorable condition.
GGMC spearheaded the clean-up of Itaballi by donating 100 packs of garbage bags and 40 garbage bins.
The Commission also sent employees to ensure that the job was done effectively.
The first phase of this exercise included the rehabilitation of the existing garbage disposal site; and staff assigned to the Litter Prevention Unit of the EPA spearheaded the second phase of this exercise, which involved enlightening the business-owners and residents about the Litter Act and Regulations.
The third and final phase of this exercise included a massive clean-up of the Itaballi community organised by the CDC and was heavily supported by residents.
It was recommended at the end of the exercise that the CDC and RDC of Bartica jointly monitor and maintain the garbage disposal site at Itaballi.
