Miss India Guyana 2018 contestants to be unveiled on Sunday

Ten intelligent and well groomed young ladies were shortlisted to vie for the title of Miss India Guyana 2018. The delegates will be officially sashed on Sunday at the M&M Banquet Hall, East Bank Demerara at 19:00h.
Tickets for the revelation and sashing party cost $1500. Also, on the same night, Mrs India Worldwide Guyana 2018 will be crowned.
Emcee for the evening will be the popular Joel Ghansham. The grand coronation is set for October 27 at Guyana Marriott. Tickets for the coronation will be available shortly.

Delegate # 1: Umilla Ganpat
Born on December 8, 1998, this beauty is 19 years old. Umilla Ganpat hails from the Ancient County of Berbice.
Always active and outgoing, her early days were spent being carefree as part of her family of seven. Her family then moved to Friendship on the East Bank of Demerara where they took up residency.
She enjoyed spending quality time with her family, friends and other relatives. She attended Craig Primary School, then Friendship Secondary School, before furthering her education at Camille’s Institute for Business and Science Studies.
Upon successful completion of her Caribbean Secondary Examinations Council (CSEC) examination, she enrolled at the Carnegie School of Home Economics for the duration of two years after which she graduated with a Diploma in Garment Construction.
Her hobbies are going to the Mandir, singing, dancing, sewing, fishing, and cooking. She describes herself as a country girl at heart and always enjoys the simple pleasures of life.
Delegate # 2 Maya Persaud
Confident, ambitious and artistic are a few words that best describe 24-year-old Maya Persaud who hails from Soesdyke, on the East Bank of Demerara, where she and her siblings were single-handedly raised by their mother.
After graduating high school, she has been working in the position of a cashier but her ultimate goal is to one day become an entrepreneur.
She often sits for hours and daydreams of becoming someone persons can look up to for motivation and added guidance. This has motivated her to join the Miss India Worldwide Pageant as she believes this pageant is the gateway of her becoming an active role model.
She enjoys spending time with her family and friends but most of all, she enjoys going to the Mandir and learning about her rich culture and traditions.
Singing has been a part of her life from the age of 13 unto this very day and one of her biggest achievements in singing was being chosen as one of the contestants on one of Guyana’ s leading reality shows – E Networks’ “Emerging Voices”.
Delegate # 3: Farisha Razak
Farisha Razak is an 18-year-old who currently resides in Diamond Housing Scheme on the East Bank of Demerara. She lives with her parents and siblings and assists in the daily functions of her parent’s hollow blocks business.
Being an accomplished dance coach at her high school, she enjoys dancing, singing, playing sports and spending quality time with her two younger brothers. Currently, in pursuit of her General Educational Diploma (GED), it is the aim of her to become a Flight Attendant.
Becoming a professional model is one of her goals on the horizon, coupled with the steadfast determination to learn four foreign languages, which will assist in her career of becoming a flight attendant and her passion of exploring many countries and cultures around the world.
As a Guyanese of Indian descent, her focus is to educate and contribute towards the maintenance of the traditional customs and rich culture.
Delegate # 4: Oma Davi Singh
Born on December 2, 1994, 23-year-old Oma Davi Singh hails from Herstelling on the East Bank of Demerara. She attended Central High School and was successful at the Caribbean Secondary Examinations Council (CSEC) examination, gaining passes in 12 subject areas.
She nevertheless got enrolled at School of the Nations, where she obtained her business diploma in business studies.
Singh was taken on as a work-study student at Demerara Distillers Limited after which she was employed by the same company. After sometime, she was contracted by Demerara Bank Limited and she is now employed at the Guyana Revenue Authority.
This Guyanese beauty is very fond of travelling with her friends and family, watching movies, shopping and also dancing.
She is a lead dancer of a well-known Bollywood dance group called the “Ishara Dance Troupe”.
Despite her strong involvement in numerous activities, she always manages to remain a diligent and focused student. She was mostly interested in the business area, and has always aspired to be the entrepreneur of a fashion boutique since being in style with what’s trending has always been her fetish.
Delegate # 5: Shoshanna Ramdeen
Shoshanna Ramdeen’s natural propensity for involvement in community service, strong faith, and humility make her a true embodiment of a rounded young lady.
An avid reader, this 22-year-old draws much of her inspiration from writers who convey real experiences by presenting true accounts of their challenges, and reveal how they overcame them. She believes one is not necessarily born with courage, but rather, one is born with potential.
When she is not at her home in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo with her mother and sibling, she is busy volunteering in non-governmental organisations, dancing or socialising with her friends. She describes herself as a selfless, driven, committed individual; traits she acquired while a student at the Zeeburg Secondary School.
After completing her formative education, this aspiring medical practitioner entered the gates of the Greenheart Medical University where she peruses medicine and is currently in her 3rd year
Delegate # 6: Bibi Saudia Safik
Twenty-year-old Bibi Saudia Safik stands five feet, 10 inches tall and hails from Zeelugt on the East Bank of Essequibo. She is a humble individual whose personality is filled with motivation, a positive attitude and a fearless mindset.
Safik is a charismatic young lady who enjoys socialising, singing, listening to Indian music and travelling.
Most of her time away from work is spent with her parents and younger sibling at home since she believes “The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing”.
After securing seven subjects at the 2015 CSEC examination, she made a jump start in her career as an Audit Clerk at Nova Scotia Manufacturing Company Limited in 2015.
She is currently employed as an accountant at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. She is currently enrolled as an Associates of Business Executives (ABE) student at Nations University, with the hope of completing her Masters in Business Management by 2020.
In five years, the Guyanese beauty who considers herself a woman of essence sees herself as a manager or CEO of a reputable company while doing everything in her power to be a role model to young people and to ensure a better future for the youths of Guyana.
Delegate # 7: Truvanie Persaud
Eighteen-year-old Truvanie Persaud resides at Strathspey, on the East Coast of Demerara. She possesses a humble personality, filled with ambition and determination, and the qualities of benevolence.
As a student, she considers herself as a very competitive and proficient girl with an enterprising and leadership attitude. She likes teamwork and would like to be known for something greater in life.
She began practicing a sport that changed my life forever; table tennis. In the past, she was quite a shy girl but through table tennis, she has gained confidence and a very high spirit.
During her journey in life, the person that has always been there for her is her mother, whom she thanks dearly for helping her become who she is today.
She is currently a phlebotomy student at the Qualitest Medical Institute. In the next five years, she sees herself completing her studies and gaining her bachelor’s degree and becoming a registered nurse and to continue to make herself and her parents proud.
Delegate # 8: Dhanita Walter
Born in 1995, Dhanita Walter hails from the county of Demerara. She possesses a very pleasant and simple personality with the ability to keep learning and experiencing new things in life.
The optimistic Walter takes part in singing at Mandir and dancing on stage for cultural events.
She is very dedicated towards her religious duties. Being the only female in her family, this vigorous young lady single-handedly manages her household responsibilities, work commitment, studies, and pageantry.
Walter was successful at the CSEC examination, which she wrote while attending the Professional Learning College. She is currently a student of Accountancy Training Centre where she is pursuing her advanced Diploma certificate in Marketing and Business Management.
In addition, Walter is an employee at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
This young lady is striving to elevate herself in the world of business and to become a senior manager for a reputable company in the future.
Delegate # 9: Bibi Sherina Mohamed
Twenty-one-year-old Bibi Sherina Mohamed comes from the village of Foulis on the East Coast Demerara. She is the second child for her parents, and possesses a personality filled with determination and endless ambition. Mohamed considers herself humble, reliable and intelligent and lives by the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi – “be the change you want to see in the world”.
Mohamed is an exceptional young lady who enjoys dancing, baking, planning surprise parties, gardening and modelling in her free time.
After obtaining 10 passes at the CSEC examination, Mohamed is currently enrolled as an Association of Business Executives (ABE) student at the School of the Nations to gain her Associate Degree in Business Management. It is her hope to read for her Master’s in Business Management in the future.
She considers herself a woman of exceptional qualities and sees herself becoming a well-rounded young woman within society by setting a leading example for other young individuals that life doesn’t come to a stop after achieving your goals.
Delegate # 10: Surujdai Mukhram
Born on April 6, 1997, to Narendra and Jamuni Mukhram of Triumph, East Coast Demerara, Surujdai Mukhram is the epitome of confidence and determination, believing that hard work and dedication will aid her path to success.
Proud Alumna of The Bishops’ High School, this energetic young humanitarian is the founder of the Inter-Environmental Club in 2014, which promotes protecting and preserving the environment while helping the community.
This one act of humanity led her toward receiving the prestigious community service plaque from The Bishops’ High Old Students Association. Mukhram is the holder of an Associate’s Degree of Arts in Economics (CAPE) in addition to being awarded 13 CSEC subjects, including 5 Distinctions.
This enthusiastic youth counsellor and programme coordinator organises weekly classes, motivational sessions and workshops, monthly haircuts for the children, birthday parties, game days and movie days aimed towards reminding and showing the children that they are still loved and cared for; and can be reintegrated into society.
Ambitious; she is also an administrator at Jaguar Oilfield Services – a local manufacturer of industrial equipment that caters for the oil and gas industry; and is also currently working on her very own motivation book for youths, which she hopes to soon publish.
