Monumental clash scheduled for Girls Pee-Wee final

Following weeks of intense female football action at the Under 11 level, today will be the day when the 2018 Smalta Girls Under-11 champions are crowned.
The final matches will see the North Georgetown Girls battling the little ladies of West Ruimveldt Primary for supremacy. Meanwhile, the third place playoff will see 2017 champions South Ruimveldt and St Pius Primary going head to head.
Prior to the headline events, spectators will see two placement matches featuring Tucville Primary challenging Genesis Harmony and Enterprise Primary taking on St Stephen’s Primary. After this, the third place match will begin.
South Ruimveldt Primary have been dominant throughout the tournament, losing only in the semi-final.
The team’s star striker, Fayon Harry, found herself backed into a corner during the semis, owing to excellent defense work by the North Georgetown teams. Despite this, the 2017 champions would look to gather their marbles and save face with a win today.
On the other hand, St Pius Primary have also shown promise, with their game going down to the penalties in the semi-final. The St Pius girls were in a similar position last year, when they contested the third place trophy but were defeated by West Ruimveldt. This time around, they will look to change their fate with a win. But the St Pius defence would need to work extra hard to restrict the hungry South Ruimveldt team.
The headline event of the day, featuring North Georgetown and West Ruimveldt Primary, will undoubtedly be one to watch. Neither side has lost a game thus far, but as competitions go, there can only be one winner. Whilst West Ruimveldt Primary has always been a front runner in such tournaments over the years, North Georgetown have held their composure to get this far. It will be a battle of the best, with Seona France and Martha Chase of West and North facing off from the front of their teams. Both young ladies have been among the goals this year, and will look to tip the other on behalf of their sides.
Whereas North Georgetown possesses a strong defence, West Ruimveldt are expected to follow suit in order to hold off their opponents. On the West Ruimveldt side, coach Jamal Pedro had already identified their weaknesses and promised to address them.
“In every aspect of the game, our team needs to improve. I’ve seen some mistakes in the defending and even in the attack. I’m looking to go out and work on the training ground and do better than we did in this game,” he promised.
Reflecting on the male team finishing as runners-up just weeks ago in the boys’ Pee Wee tournament, the coach noted that they are looking to turn their fortunes around.
“This one will be used to bounce back from the last finals with the boys, and God willing, we will be victorious,” Pedro stated.
On the other hand, North Georgetown’s parent chaperone Verna Embert expressed confidence in the team’s abilities. “Well, for the final, North Georgetown will go for it because they are very strong,” she promised.
She, however, did admit that the team has other areas to work on, stating, “A little bit more, we think that they should do more running.”
The Petra-organized Smalta Girls 11-and- Under Pee Wee tournament will kick off at 14:00hrs; the third place playoff is scheduled for 14:50hrs, and the final will be contested at 15:45hrs.
