Motorcyclist critical after being struck by speeding “hearse”
A motorcyclist is in a critical condition after he was struck from behind by a speeding bus along the Devonshire Castle Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), on Monday.
The injured man has been identified as 56-year-old Tuslie Maniram of Devonshire, Essequibo Coast.
Based on information received, at about 17:10h on the day in question, Maniram was driving his motorcycle bearing registration number CJ 6341 along the roadway while the bus, GNN 5061, registered to Regional Democratic Council, Region No 2, but attached to an Essequibo Funeral Home, was travelling behind the motorcyclist at a fast rate of speed.
However, as the driver of the bus, a 56-year-old man of Zorg Market Road, Essequibo Coast, was negotiating a turn, he lost control and collided with the rear of the motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, Maniram along with his motorcycle fell onto the roadway and ended up under the moving bus. He was dragged for some distance before the vehicle came to a halt, but not before it toppled.
Maniram was, however, pinned by the bus. He was subsequently pulled from under the wreckage by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious state and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a serious state.
The driver of the bus was subsequently taken into custody as Police continue their investigations.
