Narco trafficker jailed, fined $38M

A Campbellville, Georgetown man was on Monday jailed for five years and fined million after he was found guilty of narcotics trafficking.

Andre Able, who was intercepted in December 2015, with seven bags of cannabis in the trunk of his taxi was sentenced when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The 26-year-old was charged with possession of 76.6 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

The Court heard that on December 3, 2015, Able was hired in Rosignol, Berbice, by a man (name not given), who paid him to transport the seven bags of cannabis to Georgetown. Upon his arrival in the city, the taxi was stopped by a man, later revealed to be a Police Officer, who arrested Able. He was taken to the Police Narcotics Branch.

As the ruling was delivered in Court, the Magistrate stated that the evidence provided by the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty of the offence.
