New expo seeks to promote local businesses on international market

Companies that wish to partner with local Guyanese businesses will now have a greater chance of doing so at the Guyana Trade and Investment Exhibition (GUYTIE), an event that was organised by the Private Sector Commission under the theme “Made Locally, Trading Globally”.
The expo was launched on Wednesday in the company of the Business Minister Dominic Gaskin, members of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA) and other partnering companies.

prominent Guyana Expo (GuyExpo) to undergo a makeover to facilitate companies that would like to capitalise on the services that are being produced here in Guyana.
“I don’t think that GuyExpo was achieving the type of outcomes that we as a Government are looking for. It was successful in its own way but we wanted a model that was more focused on matching exhibitors with potential international buyers and promoting exports.”
Consequently, to enhance the services that were offered at the GuyExpo event, the PSC has engaged prospective buyers from a different angle by introducing a business to business setting. The event is expected to see a number of potential investors and partners who will be educated on the export ready businesses and services that are produced in Guyana.
Chairman of the Private Sector Commission (PSC), Edward Boyer was at the launch and said the exhibition will be timely for local businesses in search of export markets.
“It is important that we recognise we are no longer isolating ourselves from the rest of the Caribbean or the world at large. To achieve maximum benefits we must be able to meet international standards, create effective distribution channel and market effectively. GUYTIE will no doubt be an instrumental part of achieving these goals.”

Sinanan related that this initiative was a timely one which coincides with the advancements in other leading industries and as such, successful collaborations among businesses worldwide will lead to increased benefits.
“Caribbean Export will now focus heavily on market penetration, supplied trade development and intelligence frameworks, increased access to finance, promotion of green energy and energy efficiency and other key factors in lowering production costs and increasing private sector efficiency among the region,” Sinanan stated.
“An extremely critical part in the success of this programme is the improvement in the business enabling environment as we seek to development, more public-private dialogue and public-private collaboration, which we see GUYTIE being a significant step forward,” he added.
Many outstanding local businesses that were established throughout the years will be engaging in the exhibition to promote their trades. Some of them include Banks DIH (D’Aguiars Industries and Holdings), GTT, Massy Industries and Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL).
The exhibition is slated for September 19-22 at the Marriott Hotel and will feature Guyanese producers who are seeking to widen their export capacity. The organisers are encouraging local businesses to secure their spot where training will be provided to improve their interpersonal skills.
