Home News No arrest in De Willem, WCD robbery
As Police continue their investigations into the armed robbery on a De Willem, West Coast Demerara goldsmith, an arrest is yet to be made.
D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) Commander, Leslie James told Guyana Times that up to late Wednesday evening, investigators were working with several leads but confirmed that no one was arrested. He however noted investigations are continuing.
Five armed bandits on Tuesday executed a daring daylight robbery on a goldsmith, Dhanraj Patram, with several of his family members terrorised in the process including his 10-year-old son.
The men reportedly confronted Patran in the workshop after gaining entry through an open door. The men reportedly struck the goldsmith to his head and punched him to his face as they demanded cash and jewellery.
They bound the man’s hands, gagged his mouth with duct tape, placed a gun to his head and escorted him to the upper flat of the house where his wife and other family members were. Upon seeing them, the bandits duct taped the women’s mouth and hands then ordered them to lay face down on the floor.
During the ordeal, the businessman’s 10-year-old son returned home and was greeted by the gunmen who also gagged his mouth and demanded that he takes them to the money and jewellery. Petram told reporters that the men then ransacked the bedrooms and found a quantity of jewellery and cash, including US$1200 and escaped in two motorcars.
He explained that the bandits were all masked and were wearing dark-coloured clothing. After the men left, he managed to untie himself and raised an alarm. The Police were also contacted and within minutes arrived at the scene and immediately informed their counterparts at various Police stations.
