Patentia, Charlestown secure wins as Massy U18 competition continues

Patentia Secondary and Charlestown Secondary were among the winners when the Massy Under-18 Schools’ Football Championship continued on Saturday at the Queen’s College ground, with several matches decided both on the field and by walkover.
In one of the few fully contested fixtures, Patentia Secondary defeated Anna Regina Secondary 2–1. Jerry Stephen had given Anna Regina the lead in the 18th minute, but Patentia responded through Malachi Hunte in the 23rd minute before Gerony Wells netted the winner in the 39th minute. Anna Regina’s Jayden Griffith was shown a yellow card in the 20th minute.
Charlestown Secondary also secured a narrow 2–1 win over Good Hope Secondary. Nicholas Nieuelder opened the scoring in the 15th minute, while Adion Marks added a second in the 50th. Good Hope’s lone goal came from Standford Glen in the 40th minute.

West Ruimveldt Secondary recorded a 2–0 victory over Zeeburg Secondary, courtesy of early and late goals from Dellon Philladelphia in the fourth minute and Donavan Welcome in the 52nd minute. Both teams had players cautioned, with Zeeburg’s Hasswan Sams booked in the 11th minute and West Ruimveldt’s Issey Williams receiving a yellow card in the 15th minute.
Several other matches were decided via walkover. Yarrowkabra Secondary, East Ruimveldt Secondary, Lodge Secondary, Brickdam Secondary and Dolphin Secondary were all awarded wins after their respective opponents failed to take the field.
The competition continues today at the same venue with more Round Three matches scheduled. At 10:30h, Charity Secondary will face New Central High, while Three Mile Secondary comes up against Annandale Secondary. At 12:15h, St John will oppose New Amsterdam Secondary, and Belladrum Secondary will meet Ann’s Grove Secondary.
In the afternoon session, Mackenzie High School will play Carmel Secondary at 14:00h, alongside The Bishop’s High School versus Westminster Secondary. The final fixture of the day at 15:45h will see St Joseph High School taking on Chase’s Academic Foundation.
