PC retain stranglehold of ExxonMobil Regional Inter-Schools Kayaking competition

They came and conquered in 2025 and were able to pull it off once again. Last weekend, President’s College returned to Linden with the heart of a champion to hold their nerve and emerge with 69 points, once more pushing out home team New Silver City Secondary.

While New Silver City finished second with 57 points, Kwakwani Secondary improved from placing fifth last year to take third place on 44 points.
The action was the ExxonMobil Guyana Regional Schools Kayaking championship, which was once again organised by the Elite Kayaking and Nature Tours led by Dr Deon Anderson, and held last Friday in the waters of the Demerara River along the Watooka Guest House’s Landing where 11 schools tried unsuccessfully to unseat the defending champions President’s College.
President’s College began ominously when the pair of Shane Johnson and Chelsea Lyte romped home winners in the Under-14 Mixed short distance race.
They were featured in other races won by the PC side, with Johnson and Nalini LaRose winning the Under-16 Mixed short distance event and Lyte taking first in the Under-16 Female Single race.
New Silver City Secondary, for their 57 points, had wins in the male long-distance race, with Prince Alexander, Zidane John and Keifer Young being the kayakers while Nadia Williams, Princess Fletchman and Andrella France were the combination that won the female long-distance race. Young and France took home honours in the Open Mixed short-distance race.
Kwakwani Secondary had a winner in the Open female single race when Chelsea Rodney took first, and they tallied 52 points.
Leonora Secondary then stepped into fourth position, as Colin Williams won the Open male single race, and they accumulated 52 points. They finished ahead of Linden Foundation Secondary, who ended up in fifth spot.
The other schools competing were Mackenzie High (30 points); Hururu Secondary (27); Harmony Secondary (21); Christianburg Wismar Secondary (11); Wisburg Secondary (2) and Queen’s College still to trouble the scorers.
