Peacemaker stabbed to death after intervening in husband-wife fight

A Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man was stabbed to death on Sunday after intervening in a fight between a man and his wife.
The dead man was only identified as Rakesh. Based on reports received, the murder took place at around 16:30h at the Turtle Creek Landing, Mazaruni River, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), allegedly by a male who goes by the alias “Niggie”.
Police in a statement revealed that the suspect and his reputed wife were involved in a physical altercation during which the victim intervened.
However, he was instead attacked by the suspect, who was armed with a knife at the time.
Police stated that it was then the suspect stabbed the man multiple times about his body and neck.
As a result, the injured man fell to the ground and remained in a pool of blood until he was picked up and taken to a medical facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect has since fled the scene. Police have launched a manhunt for him but up until press time, no arrest was made.
