Pedestrian dies weeks after Soesdyke accident

A female pedestrian – Lucrecia Alberts, 36, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital more than two weeks after she was struck down by a lorry in Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to the Police, the accident occurred on May 5 along Adams Road, Soesdyke, East Bank, and involved motor lorry GJJ 3292, owned and driven by Ian Jhaman, and Alberts, of Adams Road.
Although Police have not given any details about the accident, it was reported that Alberts succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday about 11:00h in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital without regaining consciousness.
Her body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary to await a post-mortem examination. The driver of the motor lorry was reportedly released on bail a few days after the accident, but a Police source confirmed that he was rearrested following the woman’s death.
Charges are expected to be instituted shortly.
