West Indies spinner Khary Pierre has found a new home at this year’s Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Pierre has previously played for his home franchise Trinbago Knight Riders, as well as St Lucia Kings. His experience remains paramount, and he came into this year’s CPL with Gudakesh Motie-like boots to fill.
After three matches this season, Pierre has been economical, and the most runs he has conceded thus far are 21.
In the Amazon Warriors’ latest win, he claimed 2-19, which earned him the Player of the Match award. Reflecting on that win, Pierre credited the entire group for his success against the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
“It was a great bowling effort. The boys came out with a clear-cut plan. The backroom staff gave us a plan to work with, and we stuck to that. It was a really good bowling performance from each and every bowler.”
“Yeah, keep it simple. We know there’s a threat in Rahkeem Cornwall. I think his wicket is very important for us and for their team, for him in the powerplay to get off. So it was just about for me trying to stick to my lengths and my process, and I think I did that. So I was happy,” the spinner said.
Pierre aims to keep it simple, and that approach has proved sufficient for the spinner.
“Just keeping it simple, not getting flustered, and believing in my process. I just try to keep it really simple, and I’ve been doing a really good job of that, so I’m thankful.”
When asked how his new CPL home has been, Pierre said: “It has been great. They welcomed me with open arms, and I want to thank the Guyana franchise for having me also. The son of this soil, Gudakesh Motie, he’s a favourite, but the nature of franchise cricket, I just want to come here and play my role… and just make sure I do my role to the best of my ability.”
Warriors will return to action on Monday, August 31, against Trinbago Knight Riders in Tarouba, Trinidad.
