Plaisance man arrested after allegedly disposing of ganja
A Plaisance, East Coast of Demerara (ECD) resident was arrested after he was found with a quantity of marijuana on Monday at Britton Street, Plaisance.
Based on reports received, Police were on mobile patrol in the area when they observed the suspect carrying a one-strap bag around his shoulder. Upon noticing the Police vehicle, he dropped a transparent Ziplock bag on the road and kept walking.
The patrol ranks thought something was amiss and detained him. A search was carried out in the area and two transparent plastic bags containing a quantity of cannabis was found.
The man was told of the offence committed and cautioned, during which he denied ownership.
It was also reported that while arresting the suspect, he started to behave in a disorderly manner, and a crowd gathered including the mother of the accused, who attempted to obstruct the Police from arresting him.
Further assistance was sought and the male was finally apprehended and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station. The marijuana was weighed in his presence and amounted to 17 grams. The suspect is presently in custody as investigations continue.
