Plaisance United, Melanie FC are crowned Commander’s Cup youth champions

Plaisance United and Melanie Football Club emerged as champions when the curtains came down on another edition of the Commander’s Cup Youth Football Tournament, winning the Under-13 and Under-17 divisions, respectively.
The annual championship, organised by Regional Division Four C in partnership with the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA), attracted 26 teams this year, including police youth groups and football clubs from villages along the East Coast Demerara corridor.

Plaisance emerged champions of the Under-13 category

Plaisance United secured the Under-13 title after defeating Golden Grove Stars in the championship match. Melanie Football Club finished third in the division.
Individual honours in the Under-13 category were dominated by Joshuan Connell, who was named both Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper. Shaquille Callender finished as the division’s leading goal-scorer.
In the Under-17 competition, Melanie Football Club produced a strong performance to defeat BV/Triumph United and claim the championship trophy. Buxton United secured third place in the category.
Keena Petrie was named the Most Valuable Player in the Under-17 division, while Jermain Cox earned the Best Goalkeeper award. Trevon Glasgow ended the tournament as the division’s leading goal-scorer.

Melanie came out on top of the Under-17 category

Organisers hailed the tournament as another successful staging of youth football development on the East Coast and noted that participation and competitiveness increased significantly this year.
They also acknowledged the support of sponsors Guy America Construction Inc, Double D Trading and Distribution, Prestigious Imports and Exports, A & B Construction Inc and Modern Graphics, whose contributions helped ensure the successful hosting of the tournament.
Recognition was also extended to the EDFA, club representatives, volunteers, supporters and community members whose efforts contributed to the smooth running and success of the competition.
