Prime Minister Brigadier (ret’d) Mark Phillips on Saturday led a high-level Government team on a one-day visit to Kurutuku Village in Region 7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), to address the concerns of residents there.
His team comprised Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn, Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai, Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat, and National Security Advisor Captain Gerry Gouveia.
This high-level team addressed several concerns, and discussed areas that could benefit the people of the hinterland. Additionally, a commitment was made to support training initiatives for women and youths of the community, and commitments were made to furnish the school, enhance the school-feeding programme, and address birth certificate issues.
The residents also raised concerns regarding security, transportation issues for students, and health services, and requested that an airstrip be re-established in the community with the hope of complementing river transportation, supporting mining operations, and facilitating medical actions.
Further consultations on the issues were promised.
