The Police Sports Club Ground at Eve Leary came alive on Saturday, July 11, 2026, as the Guyana Police Force (GPF) hosted its inaugural GPF Falcons Rugby 7s Tournament as part of activities celebrating the Force’s 187th anniversary.
The tournament featured teams from the GPF Falcons and the Guyana Defence Force Rugby Club, with Police B and GDF B emerging as the top teams following a competitive round-robin stage. Police A defeated GDF A 12-5 in the opening match, but later fell 22-7 to Police B. GDF B recorded convincing victories over Police A and GDF A, while Police B defeated GDF B 12-0 and edged GDF A 15-10 to secure their place in the final.

The championship match produced an exciting contest, with GDF B taking an early lead through Gavin McPherson in the opening minute. Police B responded strongly, with Owen Adonis scoring the equalising try and Lionel Holder converting. Shawn David added another try, which was converted by Broomes, before Michael Barrow scored just before halftime. Theo Henry sealed the victory in the second half, with Holder converting again to give Police B a commanding 28-7 win.
Police B collected the first-place prize of $200,000, while GDF B received $100,000 for finishing second. David of Police B was named Finals Most Valuable Player, Gavin McPherson of GDF B received the Tournament Most Valuable Player award.
Among those in attendance were Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacob; Director of the GPF Academy, Senior Superintendent Sonia Herbert; GPF Sports Development Officer Mr. Colin Boyce; and President of the GPF Falcons, Superintendent Delon Fraser.
The tournament formed part of the Guyana Police Force’s 187th anniversary celebrations and highlighted the Force’s continued commitment to promoting sports, teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition among its members. (Guyana Police Force)
